Owen Jones

Owen is a transactional lawyer with 30 years of international experience in complex cross-border finance, capital markets, banking, investment funds, corporate, and private client transactions. He has advised many of the world’s top financial institutions, sovereign wealth funds, multinational corporations, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. His practice is global in scope, spanning clients and transactions across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.

Over his career, Owen has held senior positions at several leading international and offshore law firms. He began his legal practice with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, LLP in London and subsequently worked with a number of leading offshore magic circle firms in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Hong Kong.

Owen is part of the firm’s transactional and commercial law team, focusing on Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands law matters. He is admitted to practice in the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, New York, and England & Wales.

Select Engagements
  • Airbus and BAE Systems on landmark securitizations for over US$1.1 billion and US$1.2 billion, respectively.
  • Acted as lead Cayman counsel on the establishment of a billion-dollar leveraged buyout fund aimed at taking up to 18 public companies private and as lead Cayman counsel on a large number of high-value investment funds (open-ended and closed-ended) and for sovereign wealth funds, investment managers and fund managers globally.
  • Acted for international banks and development banks (including BNDES on a US$5 billion bond issue) and leading Cayman banks on licensing, regulatory issues, Basel compliance and their EMTN and CD Note programs in excess of US$100 billion.
  • Advised banks, lessors and lessees on the financing of over 1,000 Airbus and Boeing commercial aircraft for airlines and leasing companies globally.
  • Advised large US, French and UK banks on significant CLOs, CDOs and securitizations, including multi-currency and multi-jurisdictional offerings.
  • Advised on complex corporate transactions for clients across the Americas, Europe, and Asia as lead counsel on Cayman law, BVI law, Bermuda law and the UK.
  • Advised on family offices and bespoke trusts, including Cayman STAR and BVI VISTA structures for UHNWIs globally for asset protection, tax minimization and legacy planning.
