Paul has over 20 years’ experience in litigation, insolvency and restructuring. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2004 (non-practising) and the Cayman Islands Bar in 2012.
He is a recommended attorney by The Legal 500 having previously worked in one of the Cayman Islands leading dispute resolution teams.
He has broad experience in international commercial disputes including defence of regulatory actions, presenting and defending winding up petitions and prosecuting and defending claims in the funds and corporate industry.
Importantly, in addition to providing legal services, Paul also has ongoing experience sitting on the boards of companies facing significant legal issues and plays an active role in deploying asset protection strategies which focus on corporate governance. He has established investment committees, investment guidelines, policies and procedures with best-in-class asset managers and has experience in US fixed income portfolio composition and financial modelling.
For these reasons, Paul brings to a client situation a breadth and depth of knowledge in financial services including asset managers and funds. The core to his approach is to establish the most cost effective and efficient way to preserve, protect and enhance value for his clients.
- Representing a multi-national infrastructure, energy, mining and technology company in defending and restructuring its debts with syndicated lenders.
- Defending the beneficial owners of an international mining company against creditor claims involving sensitive mining operations in Africa.
- Significant experience with “just and equitable” and “disputed debt” winding up petitions.
- Defending claims brought by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority particular in the areas of regulatory cross-border enforcement.
- Responding and managing US Securities and Exchange requests for information and responding to potential/on-going investigations particularly in relation to crypto assets.
