Saevion David-Longe

Saevion is a Guyanese lawyer whose practice encompasses civil and commercial litigation (including corporate disputes), public, constitutional and environmental law.

He has appeared in matters at both first instance and appellate levels, including constitutional proceedings, judicial review challenges to regulatory decisions, commercial disputes and claims involving directors’ fiduciary duties. He has experience in environmental and natural resource litigation concerning offshore petroleum developments, environmental impact assessments, climate-related obligations, and natural resource governance.

He works closely with Tim Prudhoe KC, head of the firm’s disputes practice.

In addition to his legal practice, Saevion lectures in the Law of Evidence and Equity and Trust Law. He also serves as an instructor on the Police Prosecution Course, delivering training in advocacy, criminal procedure, and the law of evidence to law enforcement officers.

Saevion holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of East London and is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crimes Prevention Professional.

  • Constitutional proceedings concerning the State’s environmental obligations under Article 149J of the Constitution of Guyana, including claims arising from the approval and facilitation of major offshore petroleum developments.
  • Judicial review proceedings challenging environmental authorisations granted for offshore petroleum projects, including issues relating to environmental impact assessments, indirect greenhouse gas emissions, administrative legality and statutory compliance.
  • Judicial review proceedings concerning the approval of industrial waste management facilities and the interpretation of statutory requirements mandating environmental impact assessments.
  • Judicial review proceedings concerning environmental authorisations for offshore petroleum developments, including issues of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, statutory interpretation, mootness, regulatory discretion and the availability of public law remedies.
  • Foreclosure, receivership and security enforcement proceedings on behalf of a major financial institution, including recovery actions involving substantial real estate assets.
  • Claims for title to land by prescription involving high-value real property and disputed proprietary interests.
  • Commercial litigation and appellate advocacy arising from contractual disputes, breaches of commercial obligations and related business arrangements.
  • Trust and property disputes involving beneficial ownership of land, resulting trusts, constructive trusts and equitable remedies.
  • Proceedings concerning directors’ fiduciary duties, corporate governance and shareholder rights.
  • Representation of agricultural producers before statutory tribunals and regulatory bodies, including proceedings before the Rice Assessment Committee.
