The English Bar was the first admission for James. He was a member of the internationally-renowned chambers at Serle Court, Lincoln’s Inn in London until 2010, at which time he became a partner at Kobre & Kim. He was based in the firm’s offices in London and the Cayman Islands. He was responsible for the opening of the Cayman Islands office at the same time as Tim Prudhoe opened the British Virgin Islands office of Kobre & Kim. James was managing partner of Kobre & Kim Cayman from 2012-2014. Since 2018 he has practised in the island of Jersey.
Since becoming Queen’s (now King’s) Counsel, James has practised internationally – and in particular in the Caribbean – in the field of cross-border disputes. He has been admitted to practice in 11 (shortly to be 12) jurisdictions. He has advised or appeared in commercial claims of every description, including development contracts, intellectual property, company law and shareholder disputes and insolvency. He is also a recognised authority in matters relating to or involving trusts.
